Very undesirable, but sometimes it happens: a crack in the glass of your beloved timepiece. Can you have your watch repaired or is it time for a new one? And are you entitled to warranty?
Unfortunately, there usually is no guarantee on the glass of your timepiece. This is because a damaged glass is always caused by external causes, such as dropping the watch or bumping it against a solid. A crooked glass does not occur spontaneously.
However, most of the time it is definitely possible for you to have the glass of your watch replaced. Let’s explain how this glass is being replaced.
Different types of glass
Almost all Prisma watches contain scratch-free sapphire glass. An excellent watch glass that is used for many luxury watches. No Prisma? Then your watch could also contain mineral glass. Discover here the different watch glasses available. The watchmaker chooses the same kind of glass when replacing the previous glass.
How is a watch replaced?
First, the watch is dismantled, whereby the screws and crowns are loosened. The watchmaker carefully removes the glass and ensures that any remaining glue residues are removed.
The new glass must fit perfectly. For this reason, the diameter and thickness of the old glass is precisely measured. The new glass is placed with a special glue, which dries under a UV lamp. The watch is then reassembled.
