What makes the watch look vintage?

The vintage watch look is characterized by Roman numerals (index), dome glass and slightly thicker, higher hands. Also a checkered date designation creates this style. Although in the past most watches had almost no complications.

Vintage is back in style. Think of furniture, clothing, interior and of course vintage watches. Very understandable, because vintage watches have a style that is almost impossible to find anymore. Dome glass is part of the vintage watch

For example, the Dome collection is made with convex watch glass. This is a nice detail that was common in designs from earlier years. As standard, every type of watch glass has a curvature to better withstand external forces. However, this glass is so convex that you have to be a little more careful with bumping to prevent scratches. Therefore, this model is better suited for office rather than construction.

Date indication, hands and index are other details

A vintage look watch also has other details that stand out. Below is a close-up of a well-known design. The date watch often has that typical font. The hands are also often slightly thicker and higher instead of the minimalist designs that you see a lot these days. In addition, the index (numbers) are often Roman. The model in the photo below doesn’t have that, otherwise it would be a bit over the top. The crown is also graceful and matches the looks of the past.
